Elixir Falernum | A sensory journey with music therapy

The Italian music week begins and, as the performances of the competing artists light up the atmosphere, so the music in our cellar resonates among the oak barrels, making the movement of the molecules more harmonious and therefore improving the refinement of our Elixir Falernum.

In the heart of the Antica Distilleria Petrone, the 3-year-old wine and brandy-based liqueur comes to life through a fascinating refinement ritual that combines artisanal mastery and musical harmonies.

For at least six months, the liqueur is enveloped in musical notes that, by generating vibrations, allow it to be gently cradled in its barrels. This sonic dance accelerates the process of amalgamation of flavors, creating an extraordinary combination between the robust flavor of the wine, the elegance of the three-year-old brandy, the strength of the alcohol and the enveloping sweetness of the berries.

The first scholars of this aging phenomenon were two Austrian food and wine experts, Markus Bachmann and Thomas Koeberl who, observing the effect of classical music in the cellar, particularly that of Mozart, believed that it had extraordinary effects on wine and that it was capable of lowering the sugar value and increasing that of glycerine, making the wine drier, more mature and with a rounder, richer and denser flavor.

Research has led to the establishment that all this is due to the effect of sound waves acting on the yeast during the refinement process, improving the latter and therefore making the wine superior.

The aging of our liqueur thus becomes a taste score, in which each component plays its own note to contribute to the final harmony.
